Hat's off to graduates

I cannot believe that my sister is graduating from high school, TOMORROW! It feels like just yesterday she was calling me 'Ka because she could not pronounce my name. Now she just does it when she is trying to be sweet.
La-La before she turned evil

Just look at that precious little girl up there. She is now driving, finished with high school, working, and becoming a proper adult.

I am not ready for her to be an adult yet. But at least I still have Matt (16) and Blake (5) to be kids a while longer.

I bet I can still get her to do this kind of stuff though - that only cost me 1 dollar.

Congratulations to all graduates and my LaLa!!

Honoring our Heroes

memorial day 2013

Growing up in a military family where, my step-dad, grandpa on each side, brother, uncles, and many family friends are in the service it is easy for me to look up to the men and women in the services.

After spending time with my family all weekend from going to a water park, to playing games, bbq'ing, and just hanging around it was nice to relax on Monday and watch movies with Da Hubby.

Book Club: Ender's Game

If you want a book that you will not be able to put down, or you are interested in getting a foot in the sci-fi door  this is a book for you. Ender's Game is book 1 of the Ender's quintet and so far I highly recommend the series (especially since the movie will be out 11/1/13)

Synopsis:

To protect themselves for the impending war the world government started breeding child geniuses to become soldiers. Young Andrew "Ender" Wiggins lives with his distant parents, a sister Valentine whom he adores, and his sadistic older brother Peter, when he is accepted into the orbiting training school. Peter and Valentine were both candidates who did not make the cut. Once in the school it is clear that Ender could be the young man the world is looking for, despite rigorous training, bullying, and isolation. This book is about war, compassion, aliens.

Reading: Speaker For The Dead by Orson Scott Card the second book in the Ender's Game quintet. I am really enjoying this book so far. The first book was awesome and this one is matching up pretty well. It is so nice to read for leisure and not for school.

Wondering:  If I am going to be hired on to teach for the next school year. I have put in my applications but have not heard anything yet so fingers crossed.

Thankful:  I am so thankful to have the family that I do and that we are so close to each other. A snake was in the bed around our tree in the front yard and my brother-in-law (who is terrified of snakes) and Da Hubby came to save me from the baby snake.

Eating:  I have been all about fruit smoothies lately and strawberry jam. Momma Bear made a big batch of strawberry jam and it is AMAZING

Watching:  I am re-watching Fringe now that Doctor Who is on hiatus until November

Working On:  Our garden is slowly looking better so I am working on our front yard, flower boxes around the trees, porch, fairy garden etc.

Loving:  My new hair cut! I got my bangs and hair trimmed and I feel so much lighter. I was getting headaches from the weight of my hair when it was up and too hot when it was down, so my trim makes me feel so much better.

Attempting:  to organize my sewing room and dressing room again, I get them clean and then I start on a project or get too lazy to put my clothes up and it gets worse and worse.

Wanting:  to spend time with my family this weekend for Memorial Day.

I saw this on Kaelah's blog and thought it would be a fun to try out.

Skittle dress to Prom?

I have heard about Duct Tape prom dresses for scholarships and I have heard of people making their own dresses for prom but this one was all new to me. I may have written about my sister once or twice on here, but she is a unique person. I love her but she is 'special'. She is graduating high school in 2 weeks and for her senior prom she wanted to stand out (like she can do anything else) and she had this idea for a Skittles dress.

before prom dress
I seriously found this dress on a what not to wear site
We were given this special kind of dress by our cousin who wore it 5 years ago or more to 8th grade banquet, we had some work to do!

Some chopping and sewing later we had this bad boy. We ripped off the top gauze and added the Skittle wrapers, added some straps, shortened the skirt, and added some more tool and this is right before the finishing touches.

Add in the make-up and hair extensions

Now add on a date and one Happy Happy Happy Dad pose and it is off to enjoy Prom.
I am so glad my sister had a great time & I was able to help with it!

So what did you wear to prom?

Style File Friday: Peachy Keen

Peachy Keen

Peachy Keen by jesslsteele featuring crochet tops

I do not know what it is but I am really loving peach/salmon right now and I just loved this dress when I saw it on polyvore. I may have to go hunting at Ross and Marshall's to see if I can quench my hunger for a peachy dress.
