Book Review : Meg Series - The Trench

Da'Hubby HATED me reading this series, it is all I wanted to do. He wanted to watch a show with me and I was like "I am almost at a stopping point" 2 hours later  "are you done yet??" - Da'Hubby. I just got lost in this world where Megs are real and an ever present danger. 

Book 2 - The Trench 

       This book (obvious by the title) takes place in the Mariana Trench 4 years after Jonas' second trip into the trench. Jonas is remarried to Terry Tanaka (daughter of the friend he helped) from the previous book. The female meg (Angel), birthed by the Meg that left the trench and was killed my Jonas in the last book, is in the Tanaka Institute Lagoon with feeding shows for the public. Now with the success of the Angel of Death shows lawsuits are rolling in from the families of the victims of the Meg deaths, putting a strain of Jonas' marriage, his wallet, and even causing a miscarriage. To make ends meet the Tanaka-Taylor family have to make a deal with the devil. Not wanting to leave the lagoon because he fears Angel will escape Jonas stay while Terry goes (against his wishes) to the Mariana Trench, and she doesn't realize how much danger she is really in. 

I love Terry in this book, she was a bada**, much better that the last book. We also meet the devil's disciples Celeste Singer and Benedict. I thought I hated Jonas' ex-wife but after meeting Celeste I would not mind having the ex back. Both Celeste and Benedict have ulterior motives and are not afraid to kill to get it done. We found out that the Megs are not the only thing that go bump in the night in the Mariana's trench. I do not know who was more dangerous Celeste and Benedict  (and his goons) or the other aggressors in the depths of the trench. This was a great sequel and that is not easy to do. This was such a thriller because in took place 5 miles below the surface of the ocean. Everything was amplified to dangerous measures, and there is no escape except death. If you have not started this series this book alone is worth it.

*I am going to pimp out my friends new book again.* Silence by Ashley McNeil This one was a re-edit of a book from a while back and my first time to read it. This book  was amazing I knocked it out in 2 days and it would have been sooner if I did not have things to do. The characters were fantastic the love story had so many feels. Layna is such a strong character and I hope to be as strong as she is, I just don't want to suffer through the pain she had to endure to get there. This is one of those books you hope they turn into a movie but then again you don't because they may ruin it. Layna is deaf in the book and I think that makes her that more impressive to me. 

And seriously if you have not checked out Ashley yet hop over to her blog, she is incredible. Right now she is posting a miniseries from her other book Something Worth Fighting For, based on Adam And Darcy's story.

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs Since I enjoyed the first book I had to read this one too. It took me a bit to get into this one but I loved it! In this one they did more traveling and we met more "Peculiars" and the pictures were incredible. This book wants me to get into photography just so I can learn how they were able to make the images like the one on the cover. I do not want to spoil the first book by giving details but Jacob comes into his peculiar abilities more and relates to his grandfather more. The First book was better but I will defiantly want to re-read this series.

The Death Cure by James Dashner I have finished the Maze Runner Series, well all except the prequel but after Star Wars I am always a bit leery of prequels written/made after the fact (which is what prequel means...genius). I really hated Teresa and WICKED during this book. Okay I have hated WICKED from the beginning of the series but this book made me hate Teresa, she flip-flops so much and I cannot tell her true feelings. I think that WICKED started off good but had bad leadership and some stubborn employees and it turned the group evil. But who am I to rationalize what they did. I really liked the ending it is unusual for a dystopian novel to have a happy ending like this one but I am a fan of the series and cannot wait to watch the movies.

Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind If you have been with me for a while than you know that I LOVED the TV series Legend of The Seeker that this series is based off of (post here). I started to read it right after I watched the series because I was having some story hangover from it, but I stopped in the middle of the book. I am so glad I picked it back up. There are many differences from the book and the show (which always happens I do not know why I am surprised). There are more Wizards in the book than in the tv series which threw me off a bit (probably because I had to make up the person in my head instead of recalling the character from the show). I am actually kind of sad about some deaths that were in the book and not the show because in the show the character grows on you but in the book you almost start to like her and then she dies (that is all the spoilers I am giving no names). Anyway before I give too much away I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to start the next one.

Random Babble

To be honest I do not have much to say...and I haven't for a while.

I was going to post about what I got for Christmas, but to me they can come off braggy. Don't get me wrong I love what I got for Christmas and am so thankful, my husband spoils me and I do the same to him, but not everyone goes all out like we do. I will say that my favorite gift was this:

I love my new camera 'Sophia' and this is why I have not taken many pictures with my phone for instagram lately.

I might do a review of a new game we got Cards Against Humanity which is an amazingly horrible fun game. We have played it a handful of times and let's just say not everyone was a fan.

I have not really been reading much since Something Worth Fighting For. I started Neil Gaiman's American Gods but could not really get into it. It seems like a good book I just haven't been in the right mood to read that type of book I guess and maybe because while reading it I kept picturing the characters from Supernatural. I need to come in to that book with a fresh head and start again. Maybe go for something silly first to clean my slate.

I had full intention of doing a cheesy SyFy movie review but the show was more like soft core porno so I promptly turned it off maybe 15 minutes into the movie and do not recommend watching 2 Headed Shark with anyone who is not mature. Every time Carmen Electric came on screen it went into slow motion and zoomed in on her, it was ridiculous.

That is really all I have to say. Da Hubby and I are about to start gutting our guest bathroom, guestroom, and craft room and redo them before we get new floors everywhere so I am not sure how much craft stuff I will be doing soon. Hopefully soon I will be able to show y'all my beautifully remodeled house soon...just waiting on our contractor to set a date to put a beam in our attic so we can knock out some support walls to open up the house a bit.

My First Comic Con

This weekend I spent an amazing time here!

Austin Freakin' Comic-Con!!!!!! This was the most amazing experience I have ever had. 

The first day was all down stairs on the show floor looking at the booths spending too much time down Artist Alley and being amazed at the cos players. 

  
Ryan Frye and Ivy Doomkitty were the Big name cos players there.... Ryan even had the Thor voice it was incredible!

501st Legion Star Garrison showed up in full force, Storm troopers were all over the place.

R2 Builders were great too, the R2s moved and made the noises. Da Hubby said this was his favorite from Friday night.

    

     

I saw a Tardis dressing room, fought with Vader, met Mario and a Ghostbuster while wearing my Mario Ghostbusters mash-up shirt, survived a Sharknado and found another tardis

       

Saturday was all panels Stan Lee, James Marsters, Shatner with Bakula, and B movie King Bruce Campbell

   

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special was spectacular. I was teary, I had my heart race in many parts, it is one of my favorite episodes ever.

Sunday was just James Hong and then home but James was hilarious I mean check out the video for example.

Sharknado = Win!

I said I would come back after I watched Sharknado to let you know what I thought..... I LOVED it!

It is not a show that I will buy and watch over and over again but I enjoyed it so much. I was not even able to embroider while I was watching it I was so into the show. Is it cheesy, yes. Is the acting bad, yes. Is it a traditional SyFy movie, yes!! Da'Hubby was not a fan of it at all. He was bored by it in the first few minutes but I just thought is was amazing. I recommend this movie for any cheesy film loving person.

SyFy does it again!

Guys I am so excited about Sharknado tonight on SyFy. I swear they are the greatest at making the cheesiest movies. The only one that I can honestly say I did not like was Sand Shark. Poor Brooke Hogan is not a good actress and this was blaring obvious in that movie. I am hoping Sharknado is much better.

I mean look at the poster for the movie, they know it is a cheesy movie. SyFy knows what they are doing when they make movies like this and I think they know people like me eat them up! I am a bit worried about Tara Reid being in the movie...Fingers crossed it is not another Brooke Hogan in Sand Shark. I will check back after I watch it to tell you what I thought.

Book Club: Speaker For The Dead

Last Book Club was about the previous book in this series. And let me just tell you, this book did not disappoint! I read it a little slower than Ender's Game, but it is still a great book and I cannot wait to start book 3.

What I Thought:

I have learned when I try to give a synopsis I always wind up giving away too much of the story so hopefully B&N didn't do that. LOL. So this books is nothing like Ender's Game despite being in the same series and by the same author. This is much less a war book and more of a look at the lives of the people. It discusses religion, how people are reacting to the death of the buggers, and it is like a totally different but equally talented author wrote it. I had so many emotions with Val and Jane. The Speaker (Ender) is not the same person we came to know in the first book but it is for the better. I cannot say that one book is better than the other because they are so different.

4 out of 5 

This one is left with a 4 because of the 'cliff hanger' ending. It is not a major issue since I already downloaded the next book, but if I had to wait a year between books it would have killed me. I will be re-reading this book.

Book Club: Ender's Game

If you want a book that you will not be able to put down, or you are interested in getting a foot in the sci-fi door  this is a book for you. Ender's Game is book 1 of the Ender's quintet and so far I highly recommend the series (especially since the movie will be out 11/1/13)

Synopsis:

To protect themselves for the impending war the world government started breeding child geniuses to become soldiers. Young Andrew "Ender" Wiggins lives with his distant parents, a sister Valentine whom he adores, and his sadistic older brother Peter, when he is accepted into the orbiting training school. Once in the school it is clear that Ender could be the young man the world is looking for, despite rigorous training, bullying, and isolation. This book is about war, compassion, aliens.

So what have you been up to lately??

Missing fictional characters

I do this after I finish a series or a book. It is like a love hate thing, I love getting to know the characters but I hate it when they leave. Like in Doctor Who when the 10th doctor reginerated into the 11th. I cried like a big baby! Don't get me wrong I love me so Matt Smith, but he is not Tennant.

Just look how cute he is, how can you not miss that?.
But it is not just Dr Who that this happens with, I know many people on line feel this way about Harry Potter. Right now I am feeling that way about the everyone from The Legend of the Seeker. It was such a short series and it was SOOO good! I miss it, and I just finished yesterday. I was telling Mister about it the whole time I was watching it even though he wasn't watching it with me, he was so lost! I want to watch more of it, to see what happens next. The show did not end with a cliff hanger but I still want to know what is next for this evil stopping group. I may go and buy the books the series was based on. I am not sure yet! What do y'all do when this happens? Do y'all re-watch the show or reread the books? I just want to know more about them. I guess this is why people write fan fiction, they are not ready to let their fictional friends go. The book series is 11 books long and by Terry Goodkind, I may have to get mister to take me to a book store this weekend. Hopefully the books will be better than the series, so I can fall in love with the characters all over again.

Who knows I may just go to the library and check the books out first to see if they are as good. All I know is I need my syfy fix and I am running out of shows to watch. If y'all have any recommendations let a girl know! I am starting Stargate SG-1 now (I hope I like it) It has Amanda Tapping in it so it should be good....Right?
