Countdown to Halloween Movie Edition: Cabin in the Woods

This is a movie I was actually really excited to review because Joss Whedon is one of the writers and the hottie that is Chris Hemsworth is in it. I will watch any movie with either Hemsworth brother in it, or with Joss Whedon in the credits. I should also mention if you are a Dollhouse fan (which I am assuming you are based on Joss Whedon being the writer of that show) that Fran Kranz as in Topher frickin' Brink is in this movie.

According to IMDb the just of the movie is :

Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods.

I seriously like this movie a lot! I do not want to spoil anything but the monsters are amazing! This makes me love Topher (Fran Kranz) and Joss Whedon so much more. I can see myself watching this movie more often. This is like a (barely)horror movie with some classic Whedon one-liners and small bits of dark humor. I hope that if you have not seen this movie you totally should. This is not a scary movie but it is very gory. 

Going in to this movie I was expecting so much because of the names in it and I was happily pleased.  At first I could not get why what was happening was happening, but after a while I started to understand. I think if I rewatched this movie I would notice some more hidden gems. Is it sad I hope there is a second one, even though I know there will not be one. I was just seriously happy with my decision to watch this movie.

Count Down to Halloween: Movie club edition: Children of the Corn

So for this small little countdown I am just going to review a bunch of Halloween movies. I am starting with a show I am not even sure I have seen before Steven King's Children of the Corn.

Okay, after watching this I can tell you that I should have watched it sooner. Y'all know how much I love my cheesy movies but this was a little much for me. I understand that it was made in 1984 so the CGI is not that good but seriously this was special. I was going into this movie thinking I was going to be so scared and to be honest I was a bit bored with it. I was not scared, at the edge of my seat, or anything of that nature. Once it got to the end and the 'special' graphics hit the screen I was a bit more interested (you know because of my love for cheese) but it was not enough to hold me.

Malachai killed me in this, I could not get over his face I do not know what it was but the lips/teeth proportion were so off I could not take him seriously. All in all I think that I am glad I watched this movie so I can mark it off my list of movies to watch but I cannot say I will buy the movie or go out of my way to watch it again.

Pumpkin Patches, Emus, and Jack-o-Lanterns Oh My

This weekend we pretty much lived at my parents house. All of my relatives were in town (from my Dad's side at least) and we thought we should carve pumpkins.

We have a rule, if you can carry the pumpkin to the register you can have it. Let's just say that was not her pumpkin.

Do child labor laws count if they want to do it? lol

We had a great weekend of family fun time. It was so nice to see my cousins and their babies, and my aunts. I cannot wait until Christmas for ALL of my family comes in.

Time is flying

I cannot believe how fast time seems to be flying lately. I feel like I have no time for anything anymore.

Halloween is 14 days away
Austin Comic-Con is 37 days away
Thanksgiving is 43 days away
My birthday is 52 days away
Christmas is 70 days away

It has been married for 228 days
It has been 2 years and 2 months since I graduated
I have been hunting for a teaching position for 6 months
I have had my current job for 5 years and 3 months

It is so weird to see life accomplishments and events laid out like this. It really make me feel like I have not done much but I still feel like I have done so much. I love to feel my days with family, it may not be a special occasion but it makes a deeper impact on me. I assume you can tell that by my countdown dates, each one is a family event...true most are holidays but that is when I get to see my WHOLE family. It can be stressful driving all over to see everyone but it is more than worth it for the memories.

Sorry if this post seems to be all over the place but that is how I am feeling today.

One shoulder shirts/dressses or the shorts that are so short the pockets hang out. I guess I am just too much of an old lady to like that stuff.

Technically no, not since Taco passed away but we have a night-time pet.

I would wear what I always do a cute cotton dress tights flats and a cardigan, with my hair in a messy bun.

 I am not a big adult beverage person but I go with sweet peach tea or spiked cider. 

8. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

I am sucker for ABC Family shows - Fosters, Secret Life of an American Teenager, and Pretty Little Liars

Creative, Energetic, Honest 

10. What is your favorite Friday afternoon/evening activity?
Cuddling with Da' Hubby on the couch catching up on our shows

11. A day in the life: What does you typical day look like?

I am boring wake up at 7 get ready for work, work until 5, go home cook, eat and try to work on crafts, shower then bed by 10. 

12. If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

I want to visit England but I would not want to live any where besides Texas. 

13. You've got a whole day to yourself...what will you do?

Sleep until 8 or 9 eat some fresh fruit and eggs, craft and watch so old Gilmore Girls reruns, bake some banana bread, cook dinner and watch some chick flicks while crafting. 

14. Dream job?
 I want to be an elementary teacher! 

15. Least favorite chore?

Folding and putting up laundry

16. When do you most feel like a rock star?
When I finish a craft that I have been working on for a long time or when I am experimenting on a recipe and it turns out great

17. What is something you are currently trying to improve within yourself?
Time management/ procrastination. I have been struggling with this so much and I think I am getting better. I have been working on some presents for Christmas since the middle of the summer - usually I wait until December to even start.

There are only 85 days until Christmas!!!

We all know that I started my Christmas shopping at the beginning of the summer and now I am getting to the hard to shop for. I love my family but man some people are just so impossible to shop for.

Da Hubby - easy peasy lemon squeezy - he wants Detriot Lions, Star Wars, Legos, Futurama, and tools
The Princess - Hello Kitty, Sharks, Disney,crafty stuff
My Dancing Niece - Ballerina or Disney
Anyone under the age of 10 fun educational toys or crafts, Disney if it is a girl; football for boy
Brother in laws - Longhorn or Baylor
Real Brother - Guns, Zombies, or Jeep stuff

Aunts - NO FREAKIN CLUE!!!

I am doing pretty good this year with making presents but with my aunts I have no clue. I could etch some pyrex for when they make casseroles for the church or etch drink glasses, but that is all that I can think of.

I am at such a loss what do you get for people who like to party and wear blingy clothes? I am not one of those shiny people so I do not know what to get them.

But seriously here are some of the presents I have made so far:

I absolutely wanted to steal this so bad! I made 3 more bracelets like this. 

I saw one like this on Wanelo, when I followed the link they had no more :( 

I am making a few more gifts but I am worried about posting them until Christmas or I could just not put they are gifts (you know if I wanted to be cleaver).

What I have Learned while I was away

So I have been away for a bit but I have learned a few new things

1.  Schools in my area will not call you to tell you they picked someone else for the position

2. When you go to an interview it helps if you mention your work with autistic kids or they will not know

3. People do not really read resumes

4. Watching football live is way better than watching on tv

5. When making apple butter your house will smell amazing

6. It is nice to have an insurance adjuster live next door, they tell you insider secrets

7. When going to a football game always check the weather report or you will get soaked

8. I am better at poker than I thought

9. Paula Deen's jambalaya is quick and delicious to make

10. 90 degree weather is not helpful when you are wanting to get into the Fall spirit

11. Splitting a bag of pistachios with Da' Hubby with make your tongue raw and lead to a lye bump

12. Jones Soda Halloween flavors are out and the red licorice is good, the caramel apple is like creme soda but sweeter and with a tartness to it

13. No good movies were on TV on  Friday the 13th

14. Making jewelry is pretty fun

15. Da' Hubby is not a fan of me stealing his tools to make jewelry

16. I am smarter than an 8th grader ( I passed my 4-8 generalist TeXes test)

17. Psychology in college really helps when studying for my special education test

18. Si Robertson has a book out - I may have to go buy it

19. Salon pedicures last so much longer than home pedis

20. Starting Christmas shopping early is the smartest thing I have done this year
